Summary
Observation 1 : Jayce is terrible at taking care of himself. It is a regular occurrence that he neglects sleep, nutrition and his own mental health in favour of work. The consequences are numerous and detrimental to his well-being, as well as their progress on the Hexgates.
Observation 2 : Jayce is incredibly responsive to direct orders and praise, and seems—on a subconscious level—increasingly more willing to accomplish a task if given an outside command.
A hypothesis is drawn.

Summary
“I’m in a band now,” Caitlyn Kiramman says, over the phone.
Viktor remembers seeing that, somewhere. Vaguely. A rock band of some sort, which had been unsettling to hear; Caitlyn had been one of the more talented students he’d ever mentored, and she had stepped off of the path that he has devoted his life to.
But she sounds proud to say it, so he finds himself smiling as he says, “I’ve heard.”
“Yeah? Um. Well. There’s a gig on Saturday. It pays.” He hears a sharp inhale, an exhale, and then she confesses, “We need someone who can play keys.”
Viktor is pursuing his PhD in musicology. He also needs to make rent.
“Viktor might be a bad idea for you right now,” Vi says, straight to the point.
“Fuck off,” Jayce responds. “You know I didn’t mean anything by it. All talk, like you said.”
“Not a lot of folks Cupcake calls in a crisis. She says he’s a nice guy. You’re not crashing out, but Viktor deserves better than to be treated like a rebound without knowing, and if you make shit weird for him and Cait, I’m going to hand you your ass.”
Jayce is a great drummer. He’s just not great at being casual.

Summary
The Man of Progress is a symbol and a carefully crafted illusion. Behind it, Jayce has been sinking. Until Viktor makes an offhand comment at a gala and the illusion completely shatters.
“Jayce,” Viktor says. “You’re bleeding.”
That makes sense, Jayce thinks, since he’d apparently just crushed a glass in his hand.
“You’re also not breathing,” Viktor notes. His voice is concerned now, and Jayce feels Viktor’s hand fall on his elbow.
Jayce nods, because that makes sense too. Or, no. It doesn’t make sense. He should be breathing. But Viktor is correct that Jayce is not.

Would you please show him to his site and introduce him to my darling tailor? It would seem he’s set up just across the lane from Jayce’s smithy.”

“Please inform Viktor that he can thank me later.”

Summary
