His spine went rigid.
Sophie Baek stood at the front of the lecture hall clutching a canvas tote and a stack of folders, her hair pulled back, her smile a little uncertain as she scanned the room.
Then her eyes met his.
The air left his lungs.
Oh.
Oh no.
For a heartbeat, neither of them moved. Benedict watched recognition crash over her face in real time, surprise, disbelief, something like delight quickly buried under professional panic.
“Professor Bridgerton,” Agatha Danbury, lead department head said cheerfully from the side, oblivious to the emotional carnage. “Apologies for interrupting before starting class, this is Sophie Baek, your new graduate teaching assistant.”
