Summary
Isak thought he accomplished the hard bit coming out to his friends. They accepted it like it wasn't a big deal; like it didn't even matter. They even encouraged Isak to get out in the world. So what was the point in mentioning a crush he'd had in the past? It was over at that time anyways. The only problem should have been that Isak was too slow to say no to the plan forming in his friends' minds, and he found himself in the middle of a bet. Who could set Isak up with the perfect man? Isak had no say in the matter. The bet was on.
There was just one other little problem.
Isak was not as single as his friends thought he was.

“We could rent a cabin,” Jonas suggests around the thin filter of the joint they’ve been passing back and forth between them. “...Light up and chill for a week.”
“Yeah? You, me, the boys and—?”
“Mikael.” Jonas shrugs. “Some of his friends. You remember Elias and Even and those guys, right?”
"Uh, sure. I remember."

Or, Isak just graduated his Bachelor’s degree from NTNU and is back in Oslo for the summer. A boys’ cabin trip is arranged - the only issue is that the cabin’s too expensive unless they split it with Jonas’ roommate Mikael and his friends; the extended friend group Isak hasn’t seen in three years. And okay, he might’ve harbored a massive crush on Even back then, but it’s different now, he’s different. Not the same closet case who used to get tongue-tied around Even. Summary
This is a story about soulmates, but it's not a soulmates story.
Isak is heading into the end of his second year at Nissen with his best friend Jonas by his side, and his trusty study buddy Sana helping him with his grades. He lives at home with his mother, Marianne, in a house that is too big for them. Isak's father left a couple of years ago in a drawn-out separation, and his sister Lea is at university in Germany. But he's fine with that. He takes care of his mother, and his mother takes care of him. They're both focused on school, since Marianne is a professor at the university and Isak is Isak. The only other thing of particular interest in his life is driving a car, since he'll be getting his license shortly after turning 18 in June. He drives Marianne around the city when she needs a chauffeur, and waits for her in parking lots while she runs errands.
That's where he first sees Even, in a parking lot, outside of a church. Even doesn't see him, but that doesn't really matter. Isak sees him first, and the search for a name, a friend, a story, begins.
