Summary
Warmth presses into Taxian-Jun’s back. The hand rubs soft circles between his shoulders, reminding him that he’s safe and loved. Taxian-Jun shifts his weight until he rolls against Chu Wanning’s side. He refuses to open his eyes yet.
“Kiss.”
There’s an annoyed huff from above.
Taxian-Jun makes the most irritating kissy noises that he can as he gropes blindly in the air for Chu Wanning’s face, indicating that he won't relent until he gets his kiss. Finally, soft lips press against his so fast that it barely counts as a kiss. That doesn’t matter. It fills Taxian-Jun with an uncontrollable glee that in this life Chu Wanning will actually kiss him when he asks. Even though that barely counted as an ask.

“Mo Ran, look at me.” Mo Ran tries to look up at his shizun but his vision is too blurred. “Calm down and listen to me. I need you to think carefully. Do you have any idea who did this to you?”
“I- I don’t know!” Mo Ran’s panic is overwhelming him. He can’t think clearly. All he can see is the fear in Chu Wanning’s eyes. Chu Wanning is afraid and he doesn’t even know about his past life. He doesn’t know how cruel Mo Ran really is. Was. Is. Through his tears, Mo Ran sobs, “Shizun! I really can’t think of anything!”
For the first time in two lifetimes, Chu Wanning reaches across the table and pulls Mo Ran’s hands into his own. “It’s okay, Mo Ran. We’ll figure this out together. I will protect you.”
