Summary
“Hey,” Buck greets him without looking up from his screen, “how do you feel about opening a joint bank account together?”
Eddie, who was mid-sip of his juice, chokes and almost spits it across the room. “What?”
“Yeah, I’m thinking it’ll just be easier than, like, transferring each other money every month for rent and the shopping,” Buck continues.
“… Right,” Eddie replies, wary. Bank accounts are a big deal—one of the only things his father taught him. Eddie has only shared a bank account with one other person, and he was married to her.
Well, come to think of it, the situations aren’t that different. Sure, he and Buck aren’t married. But they do live together. Plus, Buck is basically another parent to his son in all the ways that matter. Maybe it does make the most sense.
OR: the five times that Buck and Eddie navigate life of acting like a domestic married couple as roommates without actually being married, and the one time they realise they kinda are.

“I need you to propose to me.”
Eddie nearly missed the mug and poured coffee on his own hand.
“What?” he asked, his mouth gone dry.
“I. Need you. To propose to me,” Buck repeated, as if saying it slower would somehow make it make sense.
“Propose…propose marriage?”
“No, a new business venture. Yes, propose marriage, Eddie, come on,” Buck scoffed.
“Right, yeah, okay,” Eddie shrugged, setting down his coffee mug with a loud thunk. He turned to face Buck fully, leveling him with a wide-eyed look. “Again, I have to ask. What?”
or: Buck asks his best friend Eddie to propose to him in public to see if they can score a free dessert. Eddie definitely doesn’t propose to him for real, because that would be insane. Right?

“You died during surgery. After the shooting. Your heart stopped. Twice.” Buck mumbled.
“I didn’t tell you that, how do you know that?” Eddie questioned.
“The first time it happened, I thought it was a fluke. That I was seeing things. The second time it happened I realized what it meant.” Buck started, he could see Eddie raising an eyebrow at him in confusion. “That you were my soulmate.”

Summary
These days, them getting dressed for work together isn’t out of the ordinary. Neither is Buck waking Chris up for school while Eddie takes a shower, or Buck cooking breakfast while Eddie lingers nearby, going over the bills at the dining table, or Chris trying to finish up last night’s homework while they eat their eggs and bacon.
Buck likes the company. It isn’t the same as Abby or Taylor or…Tommy, cuddling at night while sneaking kisses underneath the sheets, but maybe he’ll let himself admit it’s better.
In Eddie's absence, Buck moves into his house. Now that Eddie and Chris are back, things are different. Not bad. Just different.

It’s a disaster. There’s nothing for Eddie to do now but rip the Bandaid off.
“I’vebeenlookingatyourGooglehistory,” he says, all at once.
Buck blinks. “You’ve been what?”
“I’ve been—” Eddie breaks off with a huff, and then forces his eyes back up to Buck’s. “I went to the Google home page,” he starts again. “To search the thing about the coupling nut. But then when I clicked on the search bar, the recent history was not mine, because—”
A look of comprehension has begun to dawn on Buck’s face, suddenly.
“Because I was logged in on the iPad,” he says slowly.

“I can’t sleep on your couch forever, Eds,” Buck points out.
And yeah, that’s reasonable, Eddie supposes.
“That’s fine, we can share the bed,” Eddie says without thinking, but then figures he may as well double down. “I don’t know why we haven’t been sharing the whole time. It makes sense, don’t you think?” Buck stares at him in response, and Eddie waits patiently, but Buck appears to be frozen. “Spray,” Eddie reminds him, and Buck jerks back into action.
“Right,” Buck says, spraying the window erratically. “Makes sense. For us to share a bed. Because you don’t want me to move out.”
“Exactly.” Eddie wipes. Buck sprays. “So, we’ll talk tonight, yeah?”
“About—oh, right. You wanted to talk later,” Buck says, seemingly reminding himself of Eddie’s earlier request. “It’s not bad, is it? You’re acting weird.”
*
(Eddie realises he's in love with Buck. He's not acting weird about it, thank you very much.)

"EDDIE! HI!,” Buck yells. Everyone in the room flinches. Buck clears his throat. “Um. Hi. Good morning,” he whispers. “Nice to see you both here today.”
“In our…kitchen?” Christopher asks.
“Exactly,” Buck agrees. “It’s a nice kitchen. And my favorite guys are in it. Just like…just like normal.”
“Okay,” Christopher shrugs. “I don’t remember you being this weird.”
Or, Buck and Eddie try to keep their new relationship a secret. It doesn't go well.

Basically just lil cute fic of Buck being equally obsessed with his camera and taking pics of Eddie just like Oliver is with Ryan 🤭
OR
*“I’m not anyone’s muse, Chim. Buck’s just got an unhealthy obsession with his camera.”
Eddie Diaz wasn’t used to being seen. Not like this. Sure, he was used to eyes on him, on calls when he was hauling someone out of a burning building, all adrenaline and purpose. He was used to Christopher’s wide, trusting gaze, the kind that made him feel like he could never screw up enough to lose his son’s love.
But Buck’s eyes? They were different. They lingered, soft and deliberate, catching moments Eddie didn’t even know were worth noticing. He hated how much he liked it.*

Buck looks up as Eddie enters his vision, eyes crinkled in laughter and smile wide. Eddie’s a little bit in love with that smile. “These socks are made of hemp.”

“We have to get married,” Buck answers immediately.
“Alright,” Eddie nods. “That was already the plan, wasn’t it?”

Summary
“I’m mortified, Eddie, I really thought Buck would have talked to you about it,” Maddie says. She looks genuinely regretful, her eyebrows pulling together with concern. “Obviously, he clarified things for me, told me that he wasn’t pining for his straight best friend, and I’m just…I’m so sorry. It wasn’t my place to speculate on your relationship like that.”
There must be a worm that’s wrapped itself around his thoughts — that’s constrained his neural pathways to just the thought of Buck’s in love with you — because something takes over Eddie’s mouth. Something entirely foreign and jarring prompts him to say with too much incredulity: “Buck said he wasn’t in love with me?”
Maddie gapes at him.
Eddie snaps his mouth shut with so much force his teeth click.
or: Maddie tells Eddie about the conversation she had with Buck. Eddie spirals about it.

“Jim!” Eddie calls out as Jim exits his car and walks over in their direction. “We heard your address on the scanner. How’d the fire start?”
As Jim watches Eddie and Buck pull additional protective gear on, he wonders if it’s worth lying.
Yeah, probably not.
“I, uh, think it was probably the lab,” he says hesitantly. “The fire would have started in the garage.”
“You have a lab in your garage?” Buck gives him a strange look. “I didn’t know you were a scientist.”
Jim winces.
“Not that kind of lab.”

“Eddie, be serious. You can’t possibly be okay with this. We’re married. You’re my husband.”
And that sounds nice, doesn’t it?
He has a husband.
“Why wouldn’t I be okay with it?” Eddie asks genuinely. “I’m sure you’ll be a great husband. I mean, you’ve been a great husband so far. We can just keep doing what we’ve been doing, it’ll be fine.”
“That’s—that’s not—” Buck cuts himself off to point out, “You’re not gay!”
Well, that’s just—
“Semantics,” Eddie says casually. “Barely relevant.”

Summary
“This is becoming a habit,” Buck says the next night, as he scrubs at the poor abused centre cushion on his couch for the third time that week. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were doing this on purpose.”
Buck laughs at his own joke, but Eddie chokes on air.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Eddie insists, clearly sounding defensive despite his best efforts otherwise. “That’s—that’s ridiculous,” he finishes weakly.
Buck pauses in his scrubbing.
“Eddie—”
“I’m gonna go to bed,” Eddie interjects, already heading off down the hallway to avoid Buck’s gaze. “I’ll see you in there.”
He resists the urge to facepalm as he realises he’s just invited himself into Buck’s bed tonight, but it’s too late to backtrack now.

“—It’s fine, Eddie, really. I’ve been meaning to set something up in here anyway for if you guys came to visit, so. It worked out.”
Eddie can’t stop gaping, mouth flopping a little bit like a goldfish. Buck, all seventy miles of him, is fluttering about Chris’ old room—the guest room—propping several large IKEA boxes against different walls. Eddie says faintly, “I was just gonna grab a nice air mattress.”
Buck looks at him, incredulous. “No,” he says slowly, “you guys are going to be comfortable while you’re staying here. Even if it’s only for a little while.”
