Summary
Henry ‘Hiccup’ Haddock’s life isn’t entirely terrible. Sure, his father has been gone for two years because of his job at the Military, and the country has been in a state of unrest since the civil war- but he’s happy. With his alchemy studies going well and his relationship with his best friend Jack Overland never better, what is there to complain about?
Once tragedy strikes, though, Hiccup comes to learn life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. And no one, least of all Hiccup, could have predicted the chaos that would follow to drive that lesson home.

Summary
Hiccup Haddock is just trying to survive senior year, robotics club, debate team, a crush on Astrid he can't work up the nerve to act on, and a dad who's the city's police chief and increasingly hard to talk to. Then a lab accident changes everything, and Hiccup finds himself with abilities he never asked for and a growing double life he can't tell anyone about, not his mom, not his best friend, and definitely not the infuriatingly charming new guy, Jack, who keeps popping up everywhere Hiccup goes.
As Hiccup learns what it means to have power he didn't choose, he also starts to realize his heart's been quietly changing its mind about who he wants standing next to him when things get hard. But something is stalking the city that feeds on exactly that kind of want, and Hiccup is about to learn that the people you love most can also be the easiest way to hurt you.

Summary
Being in the position to seal off an entire archipelago would pose a pretty good explanation for the blue coat. It wouldn’t, however, explain how Jack'd have achieved that in a matter of months, mythical creatures and amnesia aside. “You can’t leave? Why?”
“Because of Ragnarok."
“Ragnarok?”
“Um, the end of the world. Annihilation. Carnage. Whatever you call it,” Hiccup waved dismissively. “The apocalypse?”
“The what?!”
