Summary
an unexpected encounter in an Oxenfurt tavern with a mysterious (and dangerous?) witcher leaves Jaskier embarrassed and frustrated. he's determined to never run into the man again, but of course, fate enjoys laughing in his face. when the witcher shows up late to winter at Kaer Morhen, past the death and desolation of his brothers, severely wounded and nearly dead himself, one narrative starts to unravel while another begins knitting itself together. would it be for the better in the end?

--“I want a bard, Lam,” Aiden says, giving Lambert very good pleading eyes. “There’s a whole passel of them in town - can we steal one?”
“No,” Lambert says firmly. Jaskier begins towing Aiden through the tavern, hopefully towards the promised private room. Geralt nudges Lambert to follow.
“Just a little one?” Aiden asks plaintively over his shoulder. “Pocket-sized?”
“No,” Lambert repeats, rubbing his forehead. Geralt suppresses a snicker.
“I can recommend a few who might enjoy being stolen!” Jaskier puts in brightly--

Now what if they did end up stealing a pocket-sized bard?

Summary
Geralt of Rivia has had enough.
Yennefer has chosen Nilfgaard. Triss has chosen Redania. So when the Crones of Crookback Bog offer him a place at their table, he accepts.
He fixes roofs, hauls firewood, slays drowners, and somehow becomes the Swamp King's answer to domestic stability. The villages stop offering children and start paying the "Gerry Tax." The Crones get a dependable partner. Geralt, to everyone's horror, discovers he has never been happier.
Ciri, Yennefer, Lambert, Eskel, Keira, and eventually Avallac'h all try to understand how the White Wolf ended up building a home in the bog. The answer is simple: for the first time in his life, nobody wants him to be anything other than exactly what he is.

The man sighs heavily. "I guess you're right." He turns back to Aiden, bright smile back in place. "My apologies, dear witcher, it seems I've forgotten my manners." He offers Aiden his hand to shake with a flourish. "I am the bard Jaskier, graduate of Oxenfurt and Master of the Seven Liberal Arts.
What.
Aiden forces himself to take his hand in a firm shake despite the shock that's numbing his limbs. "Aiden," he says, flashing his teeth in a smile. "You're the Toss a Coin bard, right?" Aiden says, like Lambert didn't spend his whole winter bullying Geralt into agreeing to a late spring meet-up and then ditched Aiden for it specifically for the chance that the bard standing in front of Aiden right now would be there.
Sweet Melitele, Lambert is going to hate him when they meet back up next week. This is amazing.
Or: Aiden meets Jaskier when he least expect it. He promptly decides that if anything ever happened to him, he would kill everyone in this town and then himself. Which would be a shame, considering that this strange town has been so unexpectedly kind to him.
