The first thing Cobb Vanth noticed when he regained consciousness was that he felt like he’d been trampled by a bantha. He kept still, eyes closed, trying to minimize pain and get his bearings. Softness underneath him, the air a pleasant temperature and humidity, the gentle beeps of a medical monitor… Not at home, then.
He cracked an eye open to get a look at his surroundings, thanking the Maker the lights were dim. He was in a cavernous, unfamiliar room filled with medical equipment, including a strange-looking cylindrical enclosure. Slowly and carefully, he turned his head to survey the other side of his bed and came face-to-visor with a familiar shiny helmet.

“Sometimes I think about opening your curtains,” Guillermo says, softly, “and waking you up at noon.”
He learned years ago that he can say anything he wants to unless Nandor is choosing to pay attention to him—and he typically isn’t. He can say things like I’m going to lock you in your coffin until you agree to turn me and I want you to do things to my body that I don’t even understand yet and I’ve never been in love before and it’s weird that it’s like this and Nandor won’t even flinch, won’t do more than say, “Hush with the muttering, Guillermo, I’m thinking about things that are far more important than you,” which has always felt like he took a page directly from what Guillermo assumes everyone thinks about him.
“. . .rude, Guillermo,” Nandor says, this time, turning to aim a sad look at him.

He is copper or bronze, but far warmer than a statue, living and breathing and all the more beautiful for it. Crimson hair falls into his face, but he shakes it aside again with a slight movement, and his eyes meet Kisara's. Instantly, the rest of the world vanishes. "Kisara. Will you do me the honor of dancing with me?"
This is the third ball held in Autelina Palace since peace has come to Dahna, and Kisara still doesn't know how to dance. This time, Dohalim intends to fix that, even if it takes half the night. No major spoilers.

"But you make the effort to understand, even when it doesn't come naturally to you," said Kisara, with unexpected passion. "That, more than anything else, is what matters. And I don't think a poetic worldview is bad at all, even if it can be a little… overwhelming for the rest of us sometimes." She glanced out the window. "You see the beauty in things I take for granted."
"And you remind me of the truth whenever I am blinded by that beauty," said Dohalim. "Our reality may be harsh at times, but ever since we left Menancia, I've found that I prefer to engage with the world as it is rather than indulging most of my idler fancies. Only the ones that I cannot possibly make a reality remain." Love, save for the love of music, had eluded him until now.
