“I’m well aware of what it does,” Crowley interrupted. Aziraphale glanced up from the book and took in Crowley’s stance, the apparent lax posture belied by the way he was clutching the edge of the countertop with white knuckles. Aziraphale swallowed.
“Is it…” Aziraphale faltered, then tried again. “Is it…” painful is how he told himself he wanted to finish the question. There was no other possible word to end that question that Aziraphale wanted to know.
“Don’t play dumb, angel. It doesn’t suit you.” Crowley’s voice was low, an edge of something to it that Aziraphale hadn’t heard since the Tadfield airbase, the moment Crowley was ready to give up and accept the apocalypse. He met Aziraphale’s eyes. “You know who I want.”

Summary
Based on the show's lore, the original Ineffable Husbands likely exist elsewhere, with all their memories, and their long 6,000-year history together. Ultimately, this allows for the grandest happy ending: they are immortal, they remember everything, and yet they still get to watch versions of themselves experience the simple, quiet human joy of growing old together under the stars. This story focuses on their shared history together and finding their way into each other's hearts completely in both planes of existence. The human au and their original celestial versions exist on different planes of existence, as well as other parallel universes that are to be left up to our interpretation. I might expand on that aspect if the people request it. At the end of the day, I try to give the people what they want. There will be explicit content in some chapters. I will disclose in the chapter summaries whenever they contain any. This is a work in progress.

On any other day, Crowley would have sobered up, driven off to Satan-knows-where, and gotten drunk all over again. Maybe he’d have driven off to his pottery class or stayed to laugh at miserable humans who try to pick up coins he’s superglued on the sidewalk. On any other day, Crowley would have been angry at himself for allowing himself to think about The Day again—but today is not any other day. Today is different. He… he can’t help but stay, and— and usually he would hate himself for staying, but he can’t help but forgive himself.

Over a year after Aziraphale has taken the Supreme Archangel position, Crowley now finds himself on a phone call with the angel—from 1941.
