Deaton turned to him, offering a private smile before inclining his head slightly. “Very comforting, Scott, thank you. But,” he looked between them, “I’m not the Emissary they’re coming after.”
Derek frowned and shared a look with Scott, who looked as confused as he did.
“What do you mean?” Scott asked. “What other Emissary is there?”

He motioned the door with one hand, pointing at it almost hesitantly. “You live here?”
“Yeah.” Stiles smiled up at him, but it faded at the look he saw on Derek’s face. Derek didn’t even know what his face looked like, but he was sure it was horrible.
“Right here?” he asked, wanting confirmation. “In this unit? Are you sure?”
Stiles gave him a weird look. “Yeah, I’m sure, why are you oh my God!” he blurted out, eyes widening while he gaped up at Derek. “Oh my God, you’re my roommate! We’re roommates! You’re the person I’m living with! It’s you!”

“Derek,” Stiles whined, draping himself across Erica’s desk. She patted his back comfortingly. “Derek, why doesn’t the lumberjack like me? What can I do to change that?”
“If you’ve opened your mouth around him, that explains everything,” Derek told him coldly. “Maybe try shutting up for once. And standing still. Not breathing would help your cause, too.”
Stiles let out a wail of despair, and everyone quickly moved in to comfort him. Derek scowled, annoyed, and clapped his hands loudly.
“Enough. Back to work. Stiles, get the fuck out of my department.”
“Language,” Stiles chided, pointing one finger at him while still draped across the desk.

“Why are you going into grandma Ito’s apartment?” he asked.
Derek turned to him, key sliding into the lock. “What do you mean?” He tried to turn it, but the key wasn’t budging. Maybe the lock was sticking again, it’d been doing that the past few days.
Stiles was staring at him like Derek was stupid.
Derek did not appreciate sass from a ten year old.
“That’s grandma Ito’s place.”
“No,” Derek said calmly, pulling the key out and then shoving it back in, wiggling it a little when it continued to refuse to unlock the door. “This is my place.”
“I think you’re on the wrong floor then, because that apartment belongs to grandma Ito.”

“You making popcorn for breakfast again?” Liam asked after Stiles had successfully hidden from the poor woman.
“I’ll have you know, I haven’t had popcorn for breakfast in over a month,” he informed him. “Also, very presumptuous of you, accusing me with no proof whatsoever.”
“The fire alarm went off, it’s always you,” Liam insisted, rounding another corner.
“You know one day, the fire alarm is going to go off and it won’t have been my fault.” Stiles dreamt of that day, honestly. He’d be able to prance down the stairs, guilt-free, proclaiming to everyone he saw that it wasn’t his fault.
For once.
“The day this alarm goes off and it’s not you, the building will actually be on fire,” Liam deadpanned.
