    I don't even like irl shipping but it's just one of those. Just is

    (my start with loving kpop fics, wow.) There is much to say about this one, a lot of which i have already done. The spirit of Be Gay, Do Crime and Illegal Freedom hit hard here and the characterisations are so much fun. Lisa is perfect here and the prose hits some nice highs and never drops off. Consistenly really good, a oneshot split into 19 parts essentially. Love the mood of the story too, the night that never ends. There's thematic richness to be found here that often isn't there in shipping fics even those i like. Lovesick Girls combines great characters, very fun dynamics and great prose with something interesting to say. Oh and the prose purposefully in lowercase to reflect the rebel spirt of the story? the icing on the cake (let me live in my delusion that it was a thematic choice, not a wattpad habit... and yes the censoring is super annoying and goes against the idea of freedom)

    took my repressed feelings, pulled them to the surface and destroyed me

    aka the post school pre uni summer time fic that made me deal with not seeing my friends anymore and prepared me for uni in a weird way. It holds a special place for that and I'm not sure if I ever want to read it again because I managed to be hit by it during the perfect time where it had max impact and there will probably never be a time again where it can hit me as much.
    I didn't like certain parts about Hope (when do I ever tho?), especially about her family situation and all that but Hosie is so well written and unfolds both naturally and devastatingly. In a lot of other stories I don't really buy the connection bc often it's off-screen'd (the actual moments that make you connect with someone, that is) or it's going too fast or some other reason but here I bought it. It was gradual and nice and hurt and man, now i do wanna read it again. Maybe it would fit for my current situation after all hm hm hmmm. I read it only once over three years ago and I remember so many moments to clearly - the first time they meet in class, New Year's Eve and that one party, the reminded/made me think of you (i need someone who does this with me, man. My favourite aspect of the entire story, can't express how much i love it) etc. I don't remember the structure and prose clearly enough to comment on it now and a lot is hazy but for the fact how greatly it made me feel and for how many moments of the story are still living in my head, i can't possibly say it's anything other than special

    Alongside The Art of Losing, i don't wanna be your friend is my favourite Legacies fic. I think I prefer it over Losing bc it made me feel more while I like Losing better in terms of substance. There's more to read into and analyse in TAoL while IDWBYF impacted me more on an emotional level. Anyways, both stories rule

    best Legacies fic

    i have spent lots and lots of time talking about this fic, analysing, thinking, writing about it. Nowadays, after having read so much more and getting much smarter in terms of media I cringe at some of the things I've said here which however doesn't change that I consider this to be the peak of Hosie fanfiction. It's a deconstruction of the ship and its characters that is sneakily good from the start. It sets up mini arcs where it puts all the cast in new situations where they are out of their comfort zone either through the use of monsters or parties/group activities. It requires you to already believe in Hosie's connection from the show bc it starts with Hope essentially already in love with Josie while not really being aware of it and does little to build that up more at the start.
    The monster progression is very well handled and climaxes beautifully with Pothos.
    I think the best part is how interwoven all the relationships are. It's a string of connected parts where if you change one relationship even slightly it will have consequences for the others even if the relationships don't really seem to be related. It makes it very satisfying to read. Everything here is connected since it's so relationship centric, consequence after consequence of an event that happened pre story in the show with Landon choosing Hope and monsters being back. Once the stone got rolling there was no stopping it. Space also uses enough different set-ups so it doesn't get boring, enough switches between monsters and group focused chapters.
    Josie's progression into a murderer is obviously the highlight of the story. It's reflected on a meta level by the first Josie pov chapter only appearing in chapter 8 and essentially closing out Part I with Josie only, making her voice louder and louder until she's screaming at you. There's things to be said how necessary some of the uses of dark magic were from a Hope Is Giga Overpowered And None Of The Others Were Ever Needed To Kill Monsters standpoint but 1) it's Josie and characters making decisions - even if there were no monster attacks Josie would have probably used dark magic anyway - and 2) the show makes the same error and 3) I don't hold other stories to the same scrutiny so I won't do it here either. Josie is mostly perfect and this is a Josie story more than anything even if it pretends not to be (certainly at the start it does). As usual, I have my gripes with Hope's depiction but nothing crazy worth mentioning. It's not the the story's fault I have a very particular vision of Hope

    Sadly it falls apart structurally towards the end of Part I and I have mixed feelings on chapter 28-30. I think the story hits its highest moment in chapter27 and Part I should have ended there. Hosie in chapter 30 is an inverse of the expected - not fluffy, not soft, not intimate but loud, dark and twisted. Pulling each other deeper into the darkness instead of towards the light which I love in one way and question in others. Being left abandoned obviously doesn't help to resolve my feeligns on the matter.

    Particular highlights are chapters 4&5, 23, 27, and the ones where Handon split and Jed going flying (can't quite remember the exact chapter at the top of my head). 28-30 are fantastic in some ways, not so much in others. Josie's mental decline is mostly well done but takes some turns where I'm questioning the necessity. But overall her magic infected metal state comes across in a way that it exhausts you while reading and her murdering Maya is genuinely shocking. I still believe 28-30 are a betrayal of the core of the story, its structure and internal rules but they offer many interesting moments and if you wanna see Josie's mental decline as reflected in the broken down structure (which would be genius if intentional) then those 3 chapters might be the best of the entire fic. Even more so if you were seeing the dark Hosie coming. I wasn't - caught me really off guard, so much so that I didn't know what to do it with it for a while (still don't lol).
