“Hair,” she mumbles, fingers shooting up to the back of her head, where a section has bulged into an uneven lump.

    Wyatt blinks, squinting. “Hair?”

Lou Lou doesn’t nod. “Hair.” she echoes, suddenly up into a sitting position. It has been messed with quite a bit, aside from the knob on the side, her braids are fraying and one has even become entirely loose. Oh no, he thinks. She wants him to fix her hair.

Maysilee must have been listening the whole time. She’s already eyeing him with a gentle smirk when he looks up.

[Or: After the private training sessions, Lou Lou needs her braids tended to. Maysilee offers Wyatt a hand.]

    Summary

“Take me to the Hob,” Maysilee says, “then, we’ll follow him home and break into his house. Easy-peasy.”

Wyatt’s eyes go as wide as one of the Sweet Shop’s rainbow spiral lollipops. “That does not sound smart.”

“I’m not worried about being smart, Wyatt,” she says, voice cuttingly small, head faintly quivering side-to-side. “I’m worried about never seeing my grandmother’s necklace again.” She sounds anything but frivolous. “I need to know who this guy is, and I need your help to do that.”

He swallows deeply, rushes of images from that day in the woods filling his mind. How he saw this tough-as-nails girl sobbing rivers over this lost piece of jewelry, how intimate and personal it was to her. And, of course, how he had given her his word that he’d help her find it.

Well, he supposes there was no more perfect time than now to prove that.

[Or: A necklace turns up missing, and Wyatt finds himself making dangerous promises.]

    Summary

It had been weeks since Haymitch won and weeks more since Burdock showed him Lenore Dove’s grave. Long enough for the leaves to look like blood and the trees to die with summer.

It was the first school year Haymitch would not attend, not because he wasn’t allowed to but because he knew that in less than a year, when the world had life again, he’d be leading two of his old classmates to their deaths.

Then, in big, bold letters all traced with fury, she writes: To whoever the hell this is; can you stop filling out betting slips on my fucking arm if you’re going to ignore me?

Your handwriting is atrocious, by the way!

[Or: You write on your skin, it appears on your soulmate’s, too. Maysilee jumps the gun with hers.]

    Summary

To start, wrote Anne Blythe, you must find a suitable person.

She did not mean it to be read allowed, any more than she meant to write a story endorsing Rollings Reliable Baking Powder.

The great thing about age, though, is that it's so much easier to laugh at oneself. And Gilbert loved this story. Recipe, really. So on a golden summer eventide, Anne reads it allowed, to her children, to their spouses, to Gilbert who loved it.

And who better than Anne Shirley to take as an authority on perfect happiness? After all, she was imagining it years before she found it.
