This, Too, Is Sacred by HeartOfAspen. Read January 2026. Very interesting concept with the pureblood families secretly obtaining, sharing, siphoning Earth magic for all other witches and wizards to use. Involves an annual rite where a house/personal rune is thrown into a basin which is at a henge. If you pick your own rune at choosing - you remain unmarried that year. If you pick up someone else’s rune - you and 6 other couples are married in a group ceremony and then led back into the henge to consummate the marriage (in private.

Hermione is in Australia two years after the war and the healers are able to get her dad’s memory back but her mom’s didn’t go well due to prior spell damage as a child. She explains to her dad why she obligated him and he says so Voldemort rose again? Huh? Turns out both of her parents are squibs; however, Hermione is actually a pureblood with association to 3 different families (the Ollivanders, Macmillans and Prewetts). Her dad insists that she return to England and go see Molly Weasley (who is his cousin but didn’t recognize him the few times they met) as there are things she needs to know. He can’t really say WHY or WHAT is going on.

Hermione returns and meets with Molly privately who then explains about the marriage/pureblood rite they must all follow. Hermione has been “called” to cast and she must choose which house she will represent. She goes with Prewett as Molly said she can sort of adopt her and go through the rite with her.

Face On the Milk Carton by dyslexic_penquin. Read January 2026. Lengthy depiction AU as of 4th year. Hermione reads a VERY old magazine article that has her baby photo. She is a Malfoy kidnapped as a baby when Narcissa was pregnant with Draco. The Grangers admit buying her as a “networking” tool but she turned socially awkward. Lucius buys them off. Hermione’s heartbroken that these people never really cared about her and lied to her.

Ron and Harry turn on Hermione when the news breaks; but Sirius shames Harry and he apologizes to her. Ron just gets nastier and nastier which drives Harry away. Hermione had no other friends; but makes new ones with some other Gryffindor and Slytherin girls. She also starts hanging out with Draco and Theo (who always had a crush on her but knew his father wouldn’t allow him to date a muggleborn (but she’s pureblood now!).

Rest of year 4, Hermione and Harry prepare for the last tournament challenge. They get Sirius out of any criminal charges and reinstated as Lord Black with Hermione as his heir. They find a spell requiring his father’s bones Voldemort will use to get a body. Sirius and Remus move the cemetery headstones and the spell doesn’t work when Harry and Cedric get there via the trophy portkey. Pettigrew and Voldemort (as a clay golum) escape, but Sirius and Remus kill Nagani first. Hermione and Harry found out Barty Jr was impersonating Moody and keeping him a prisoner. Hermione got Bill Weasley to undo the wards and they rescued Moody during the tournament.

In this story, Dumbledore’s action are repeatedly seen as suspicious. The story shows him isolating Harry, paying off the Dursleys, etc. Harry no longer trusts him but goes along to seek info. Sirius, Lucius and the kids take down the Dursleys on child abuse, tax evasion and other financial crimes. Aunt Marge never comes to get Dudley; so Sirius takes him in as well. Dudley starts a wellness routine and quickly loses weight and works out a lot.

The rest of the book is similar in that most of the basic canon events occur - but with different results or by different people. In Year 5, the ministry denies Voldemort is back and Umbridge is still terrible, but the DA includes Slytherins. She is eventually arrested after being caught by Snape and McGonagall using blood quills, compulsion/coercion spells and blackmail. She is convicted months later with a sentence of many many hours of community service to all the disadvantaged beings and people she targeted (Hermione’s suggestion). 400 prejudicial laws she made via regulations were also cancelled. Earlier in the year, Ginny (who is a shitty person) and another girl were caught using love potions on Harry and Theo (and another boy as a red herring). Hermione is pushed down a moving staircase (by Ron we find out much later) and falls 9 floors. Hermione makes him swear a life debt and stop all negative talk. Ginny agrees to turn “state evidence” to get charges dropped. OWLS occur at end of Year 5. Hermione gets all O’s except for Muggle Studies where she lectures them what a joke it was instead of answering the questions.

The Azkaban break out of Bella and others happen in summer after 5th year. In Years 5-7, the group is researching and hunting Horcruxes. As we move into Year 6, the Malfoys are trying to stay to look like supporters of Voldemort w/out really committing. The escapees start dropping by the Nott and Malfoy homes. Bella’s brother-in-law gets a fixation on Hermione.
