The Internet was the first place to truly 'get' her, to open her up to a world bigger than this little patch of Heartland dirt, to offer her friends instead of dirty looks and side-eyes, or questioning stares.
And now that’s all she craves. The anonymity of the Stop-N-Go Mart, the gas station on the corner of Main and Third where she used to bluff her way into buying smokes, the dirty bars that reek of stale cigarettes and sweat, the fields — open, expansive, as far as the eye can see and farther still — barren and tilled, slumbering.
