Shane and IIya knew from the moment their daughter Irina stepped onto the ice, she was going to be a star. As Irina grows up and become a figure skater all she knows is to be perfect. She has to be perfect because she was the daughter of Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. There was no chance for rest or to have doubt. But what lies under all the champions and wins, she knows she's on the brink of breaking and her parents don't know and that's how she wants it. Because she's perfect.

“Okay. It’s fine if you’re not okay, though. We can handle that.”
He doubted that Ilya, Anya, Harris, Coach Wiebe, his parents, The Irina Foundation, Rose, or even the gas station attendant down the road from their house could handle the idea of Shane looking at the black hole in his mind. It would swallow him. Everything would get out of control again.
