Summary
“I cannot,” Grantaire’s voice is uncharacteristically quiet. He does not want to deny this man anything, but he knows this cannot be. The tightness in his chest moves up into his throat and his headache worsens.
“You said you would follow me,” Enjolras shreds his coat and marches towards Grantaire. Their eyes never leave each other. Despite being the same height, Enjolras looms over Grantaire from where he is slumped against the wall. They are both loud and larger than life, but Enjolras has a purpose about his presence. What does Grantaire have?
Grantaire stares up at his leader, “I would. I will.”
—
In the evening at The Café Musain, Enjolras ponders over an issue. Grantaire stumbles between giving in and giving up.
