“My, a third house?” Shrignold leans closer, as if the tree were eavesdropping. “Is something wrong with the other two?”
“I don’t-” He looks at his palm, where torn grass clings between his knuckles. “I don’t like them anymore. There’s- they’re mean houses.”
He braces for a scolding about stop mumbling, but Shrignold only hums.
“Ah, hateful homes. I’m quite familiar with those.” Downhearted, but then the smile returns. “You know, I have a nice house. You could stay there until you’re ready.”
