Summary
It’s freezing.
The snow is piled up on the side of the road and Jackie’s regretting saying yes to Deb Shipman. But that damned woman has a knack for pulling at her heartstrings. It’s something she doesn’t have on her own daughter, but Jackie Taylor, since she was a child, ached for that warmth, the approval, the love. And Deb gave it willingly. Shauna appears to have inherited some part of her persistence from Deb, clearly. Because Jackie’s driving on a snowy dirt road leading up to where Shauna’s living simply because Deb needed her to check on her, maybe get some sense into her and make her stop being a recluse. And for the love of all things holy, maybe not throw away the million dollar book deal on her hands, her job and everything else.

Jackie and Shauna are broken up. Have been for six years. But they always draw each other in.

“Yes, but it needed it. It was an absolute shit show Vi, literally!”
“Are you? Are you laughing?” Caitlyn sounded almost amused, maybe.
“Well, yeah. I didn’t think I’d ever hear you swear and say my name like that, Cu—” throat cleared, “Caitlyn.”
Her business partner sighed, “Goodbye Vi. Please tell me when the roof is finished, I’ll be by to take measurements for the rooms and furnishings later this week…” Vi almost hung up the phone but then her colleague —partner? Boss? Definitely her boss, made a funny little humming noise quickly followed by a rather upbeat, “Oh! How do you feel about forest green?”
“Uhhh… am I supposed to feel something for a color?”

While creating homes for other families, Caitlyn and Vi learn that building a family isn't always an easy endeavor. They’ll discover that some things simply cannot be fixed, but can be endured; together.
