She stared up at him from where she sat, stunned. Did she want to be a boy? Was that something someone could just… do? That mismatch, that hatred of herself, returned tenfold, and for a long moment she just stared up at him. Words failed her. And Tails stared at her with such an earnestness that she didn’t even know how to comprehend it. He wasn’t teasing her, he was… asking a genuine question.

“Hmph,” Shadow grunted, not answering the question as he released Sonic’s wrists from his grip and leaned back up to sit down solidly on his rival’s back. For some reason, he didn't want to get up as he stared mesmerized at the still bloody bite mark on the blue’s left shoulder.
Sonic said something, probably asking to be let up, but when he shifted underneath Shadow all the darker hedgehog was aware of was the abrupt spike of warmth the movement stirred in his stomach.
