Summary
Why does he keep bringing Saint along? Why call and invite him to New Mexico? Why go to Kenway or the Queen Mary together? He’s known this whole time that eventually Agent Gray would find out that Alister had a tag-along exorcist and wouldn’t be happy about it. Saint is good at his job, sure, but so is literally everyone Alister works with. He hasn’t even particularly needed an exorcist, except for the Queen Mary and that ghost didn’t even turn out to be real. He’s driving through a couple states with a man who doesn’t like him and who his bosses would be unhappy to know was there. Where’s the benefit?
If he was more sentimental, Alister would maybe think it’s because he’s tired of working alone, but he’s been some kind or another of alone his whole life so it’s not like this is new. If anything, the risk of interpersonal issues is rarely worth the help he gets from another set of hands, as he is currently well aware. The crumpled receipt with two coffees and two sandwiches on it is burning a hole in his pocket. He takes a deep breath.
