At the end of the street a tall whitewashed steeple presides over the traffic. A plastic assembly of the holy family sits in the grass, wildflowers around their feet. A tear of grey dirt runs down Joseph’s cheek.
Dean looks up at the clapboard sign next to the sidewalk. “Welcome to Pastor James Novak,” it reads in block letters. “And family.”
