    To You

    a novel by Miya Atsumu

Miya Atsumu’s best-selling debut novel is a memoir that comes in the form of a long and heartfelt letter to his long-time best friend, former volleyball teammate, and lover, Sakusa Kiyoomi. He tells the story of his dysfunctional family upbringing, the unwavering friendships that helped him through it, his strange sexuality journey, what it means to live, to lose, to grieve, and at the heart of it all, to love.

“Painfully human, honest, and fucking hilarious. Both this novel and the person who wrote it.” - The New York Times Book Review
“So intimately written that I felt like I was their third. I’d love that for me, actually.” - Hoshiumi Kourai, author
“Atsumu writes the way he talks and finishing this book felt like having to say goodbye to a friend. Good thing he actually is my friend. Too bad for the rest of you, though!” - Kita Shinsuke, author

    Summary

Post-canon, a very broken Yuuji and a very broken Megumi find comfort in each other.

    ***

"Do you love me?" Yuuji asks softly.

It's a strange question, and Yuuji has never been in love before, so he doesn't have any reference. But the feelings inside him are unlike anything he's ever felt before, and he's desperate for answers.

"I'm not sure the word is big enough," Megumi replies.

"What word is big enough?" Yuuji asks.

Megumi is silent for a long moment, and Yuuji wonders if he's even going to answer.

"I need you," Megumi finally says. "I need you in an unhealthy, obsessive way. I need you more than I've ever needed anything. I think that's the word."

    Bookmarker's Notes

That feeling when you're six years old and you scrape your knee on the concrete floor, you cry because it hurts so much, the blood runs down your leg and it's dirty because little pebbles got stuck here and there. Then you see your mother or father coming towards you in the distance, they probably heard you start to cry. They have a worried look in their eyes, a box of bandages and antiseptic in their hands. They kneel down at your height and start to gently clean your knee, once everything is no longer flowing with blood they let you choose between a plaster with dinosaurs and another one with rainbows. You don't know which one to choose so they put both on you, side by side, they give you a magic kiss and, before you know it, your tears have stopped flowing. They give you a sweet smile, wipe away the few tears that remain on your cheeks and tell you that everything will be okay now, you believe them, you believe them because it is an act as simple as breathing. You say thank you, give them a hug and go back to playing carefree under the soft sun of a Sunday afternoon in June.
Later, years later, you will understand this was love and care. And by now, this is how you want to love. Consciously and deliberately.

That's what i felt about this fic (mostly the second part), this is simply beautiful. I think this unconsciously cured me of something I am aware of but cannot identify.
    Thank you so much.

    “Marry me.”

Megumi glanced up from behind the rim of his reading glasses. “What happened to ‘hello’ and ‘how are you’?”

“Hello, Megs. You look particularly handsome today. How are you? Will you marry me?”

“Will you call me Atsumu now?” Miya asks.

“No, Atsumu,” Kiyoomi replies. He freezes, shocked at how easily the name had rolled off his tongue, like it had always belonged there.

It sounds like the start of an impressively bad joke, if you ask Megumi:

An asexual and a (possible) aromatic walk into a college dorm. Confusion ensues.

This did things to me, in a way I can't describe it. I want to print this beautiful piece of art and then stick it on my walls so I can read it every day and never forget it.
