Summary
Sasori has been enthralled in a frustrating back-and-forth with a hunter ninja named Sakura for the better part of two years. Every encounter draws them closer together, both wanting something more from the other, but held apart by their situations.
Exasperated by their game of cat and mouse, Sasori attempts to force Sakura's hand, finally convincing her that her place is with him.
It doesn't quite work the way he wants it to.

Sakura is dispatched to the sunset edge of the world to investigate the origins of a mysterious pestilence decimating the civilian population there. To combat the villagers’ suspicion of an outsider meddling in their lives, she enlists the help of an enticing traveler who may hold the key to something much more ruinous than the blight upon this land.
Some doors, once opened, can never be closed.
