2026/04/03 UPDATE: the first scene of chapter 1 has now been revised and changed. As much as I liked that little scene that was there, it no longer fit the direction that I'm taking this in. other small edits are throughout the fic along with the new chapter that is Chapter 6 ^_^

Under orders from Mori, Chuuya ships out west, leaving Kyouka in the hands of her mentor. He didn't expect to come back to what he did.

"You're leaving?" a small voice asks. Chuuya pauses in his bickering to glance at Kyouka. If possible, she has lost even more colour and her eyes were wide.
"Yeah," he says in a rush of air after a pause. Her stricken look deepens. "I'll be back. Missions like this don't normally take longer than a couple of months. Maybe a year, at most."
Kyouka nods, the movement almost imperceptible.
"Hey, you'll be okay. Kouyou will be here with you," he points out, reaching out to gently tug on a pigtail. She doesn’t move to bat him away, her eyes downcast. She retracts her hands, hiding them in her lap.

At age 25, Dazai is happy and satisfied with his life. So naturally, just as Dazai is no longer thinking about dying as much, fate likes to throw him a curve ball.
Chuuya, of course, suffers through the whole ordeal. A story of Nakahara Chuuya's life.
Or Years of miscommunication between Dazai and Chuuya somehow unravelled by the Hanahaki Disease, although it would take some time for things to get settled.

Summary
“Here’s what’s gonna happen,” Chuuya starts, conviction (and probably some desperation) firm in his voice. “Neither of us are gonna leave this damn room. Call in sick, or whatever the fuck I don’t care, but you’re not going into work, or anywhere today. I’ll fucking hold you down just like this if I have to. Got it?”
Dazai cocks his head, and Chuuya can tell he’s really trying hard to maintain the bored look on his face. Chuuya’s known Dazai long enough to recognize when he’s curious.
“Am I being held hostage by the mafia right now? Is that what’s happening?”
In which Dazai succeeds in the death he’s always longed for, and Chuuya and Atsushi will do whatever it takes to save the man who saved them before they even realized they were being saved. However many times it takes.
A study in loving someone who refuses to be loved.

Summary
Chuuya Nakahara wakes in the infirmary of the Armed Detective Agency with no memories of what landed him there, or why he isn't able to manipulate gravity at will.
Dazai's at his side, tight-lipped about the ordeal and hiding behind his veneer of calm, and lets the doctor inform Chuuya that he'll be staying at the Armed Detective Agency until further notice, the deal already negotiated between their organizations.
Living with Dazai keeps bringing up the past, though, and there's nothing worse than being forced back into old memories where none new can form.
