The male wasps don’t live long, it occurred to her, they can’t survive once out of the fig because they don’t have wings of their own, they impregnate the females when they are young so the females can emerge with a reason. That is there purpose, to embed part of themselves in the female, to help them die inside a fig. To give them a purpose without the freedom of choosing it. Nature doesn’t allow choice. Gaia didn’t help Persephone.
