Summary
Neuvillette finishes applying his eyeliner just as Wriothesley stops behind him. Their eyes lock through the mirror. “The look you have when you want to devour me whole,” replies Neuvillette quietly.
He loves that look, revels in it. At least, Neuvillette does. His secondary nature as an alpha always rebels against it, appalled that another alpha wants him this carnally.
Neuvillette is good at repressing his secondary nature most of the time.
Good at repressing it when Wriothesley wraps his arms around him and buries his nose in the crook of Neuvillette’s neck, scenting him. The duke’s pheromones are heady, dominating. Neuvillette has to force his own pheromones to stay subdued while his instincts are screaming at him to let them overpower Wriothesley’s, to try to dominate the other alpha.

“Then you are agreeable?” Neuvillette asked. “That is, you will share my heat with me provided we use the correct forms of protection?”
“I…” Wriothesley swallowed, sweat beading on his brow. Fuck, he was hard. He tried to adjust in his seat but it did nothing to hide his arousal. Nor would it have if the flare of Neuvillette’s nostrils were anything to go by. “Look, I want to. I really do.”
“But?”
He hated how the rain picked up outside. Wriothesley sighed and shook his head. “I’ve never taken a partner while in rut. I have… Sigewinne diagnosed me with PTSD shortly after I came to the Fortress of Meropide. Ruts are a particularly vulnerable time for me.”
“That is very understandable,” Neuvillette nodded. He walked around the desk and placed a hand on Wriothesley’s shoulder, his touch gentle. “If I promise to follow your lead and do not make any decisions before consulting you and your wellbeing, will you agree?” He paused and took a deep breath. “There is no one else I would trust more than you to help me through my heat, Your Grace.”
Wriothesley and Neuvillette agree to help each other out... with a little encouragement from Sigewinne.
