Huaisang successfully time travels back in time with the primary intention of saving da-ge from his death—with an unwanted side effect of being born as the Third Young Master Wen.
Consequently, Nie Mingjue, who clearly remembers being dead, wakes up in the past.

There is an entity that lives in the woods of Qinghe.
Most refer to him as a man, though not often in the sense that he's a human without an actual name. He's called a witch, but Nie Mingjue's father and forefathers properly address him as the Shaman. Thinking of him as an immortal cultivator to the likeness of the famous Baoshan Sanren helps explain his reputation and the tremendous amount of power, even if it's contestable that he has outlived her and more than half of Nie Mingjue's ancestors.

Zhou Zishu was no better during waking hours, sparing what he could in reminiscing about what he actually recalled from his random dreams of a faceless little girl. She was dressed in hues of blue, sometimes pink with a touch of red. Effortlessly, he filled out the blanks among her vagueness: dark eyes in the shape of almonds, a button nose, pinchable cheekbones, and bow-shaped lips; altogether, they would crinkle adorably when her face lit up with a beam or when she stuck out her tongue in impertinence.
Albeit on a young girl’s image, those were exactly two of Wen Kexing’s trademark expressions.

Summary
Now that they could properly look at the pair’s backs, Wei Wuxian realized that it was a man, slight and shorter than Nie Mingjue. At a glance, he thought it was the Sect Leader Nie’s Deputy, Meng Yao, who was present during the orientation as part of the Nie Sect retinue, but oh… definitely not him.
Not when he familiarly hooked his arm with Nie Mingjue’s and stuck impossibly close to his side.
While apparently surprised at the sudden gesture, Nie Mingjue did not pull away, and if anything, he relaxed at the touch, a fond look cutting through his default serious expression that was missed by his companion.
Wei Wuxian found it simply endearing.
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng catch Nie Mingjue in his secret meeting with someone. Misunderstanding ensues, and Jiang Cheng has a lot of complicated feelings over some matters.
