He was startled out from his meditations at the sound of Mutt barking. It wasn't a warning bark, meant to alert his master of an intruder. It was a bark announcing his arrival, and there were human footsteps following him. They came to a halt by the double doors, standing half open since the forge was technically closed.
“Next time you're trying to hide from me, maybe don't leave your dog behind.”
Henry raised his head, rubbing his eyes again, convinced Hans was an illusion of a tired mind where he leaned nonchalantly against the frame of the door. Maybe he'd fallen asleep, maybe he was dreaming. However the warm, furry head placed in his lap felt decidedly real.
“You were supposed to watch him.” Henry scolded the animal pressing against his shins, looking back at him with a whine and big brown eyes, “Traitor.”
