    Summary

Adam doesn't really have time to get a really good sulk going, after he's turned into a Beast, because princesses start turning up on his doorstep begging for sanctuary. None of them are his princess, but it is awfully nice to have company...

Belle is slightly terrified of the Beast who collects princesses, but to save her father, she'll dare anything.

    Summary

Owen Grady speaks Raptor, but it's a language he learned through immersion, the same way his girls learned English. Owen Grady also speaks Parseltongue, but that's because he's a wizard passing as a muggle. It doesn't change a lot about his work, until it really, really changes a lot about his work.

Remember when stories just... had a point? Like, they didn't need to be some artsy French thing that takes five degrees and three languages to piece together, or a dark, edgy reboot for those guys who take Batman super seriously. Batman didn't start serious-- he started as stupid long funny pages. Funny pages weren't designed to be long-form but they figured that whole thing out eventually.

This is kinda like Batman. This is looking at something designed for a very different time, but still seeing that there was a purpose there. This is like when they made Brave and the Bold, except they didn't just throw all the old janky storytelling back together in nostalgia-bait configuration 4.

Batman didn't start serious, but he still had a point. Fairy tales still had a point. Having a point is why we started telling stories in the first place.

Look, it's just... read this. This has a point. Have I gotten that across? It's not about edge or putting Sleeping Beauty in sneakers. It's about the point of fairy tales, filtered through a modern understanding of storytelling.

...did any of that make sense?

“So,” says Wendy. “How much did the little dudes tell you about their summers here?”

“Oh, I don’t know. They told me about the friends they made, some of the things they did. Why?”

“Right.” Wendy nods. “Um. I have to leave immediately.”

    Or:

Wirt decides the best thing for his family at the moment is to move. And what better place than Gravity Falls? Gravity Falls has family, friends, history, and enough secrets to drown in.

He really wishes someone would tell him what the hell is going on.

I actively avoid horror, but both Garden Wall and Gravity Falls are personal favorites of mine. This was the exact right way to hit me in the feels.

    Summary

The Celestial Forge is the greatest combination of crafting powers in Jumpchain, meaning it is the greatest combination of crafting abilities in all of fiction. In Brockton Bay a forgotten side character's trigger event ends with him linked to the Celestial Forge rather than his intended shard. His slowly expanding collection of tinker abilities and the influence of his new benefactor pulls him into the heart of the conflict about to rock the city and decide the fate of the world.

As part of a writing experiment that turned into a narrative. Perks and items form the Celestial Forge (pastebin.com/35AJD9Lj) are selected randomly based on progress through the story. Ultimately an excuse to explore the technology and crafting abilities of multiple sources of fiction.

This is the good stuff. Sure, there's some clunky prose whenever Joe explains his powers, (the phrase "to an insane degree" now induces a pavlovian response) but the story is solid gold. I especially like the interludes, where we get to see the consequences of extreme power scaling in real time.
