“Charlie-,” Max starts again, but there is a swell of words tumbling from Charles’ lips before he can even pretend to swallow them down again.
“I am so sorry, I was not thinking about it,” he rushes to explain, his lungs burning and his mouth moving without his permission, just spewing words, “You know how it is. I am so used to-”
There is concern washing all over the blond’s face, his lips turning down at the corners and his eyebrows pulling together the longer Charles struggles with the words flowing freely from his lips. The hand on his shoulder squeezes gently, once, then once more. Fingers dig into the skin above his collarbone.
“-but I always think about kissing you when I see you, because it’s a sign that we are very close and honestly, you should take that as a compliment, because-”

“No,” Max hears his own voice, hollow and shaking, quiet in the bustle of the Red Bull hospitality suite. “There was no courting. I would know if Charles- if he was- I mean-”
Except he absolutely wouldn’t. The omega tries to think back to when he learned about courting - but there’s only a blank void in his mind. He could blame it on his father never teaching him - his disdain for omegas only too visible in every word he spoke and every action he took.
But at the same time, Max refuses to see himself as clueless. It can’t be. He would have known for sure.
