It’s 2009 in rural North Georgia and Jayce Talis is running from something. He is running into the mountains, the prodigal son fleeing home in exile. There’s something screaming in the woods and something else whispering underneath his father’s house. He’s going home, God help him, he’s going home. And Viktor, his once best friend now a near stranger, works his grandmother’s farm and follows the old folk magic ways, and when he dreams of sinking into the black mud of his own grave, he sometimes wakes on misty mornings with his face pressed, cold and numb, into the tilled soil.
There’s something ancient and alive unearthed in the furrowed fields of Piltover County. There’s a circle drawn in horse’s blood. Foxes surround a lonely gravesite in the mountains. Gunshots echo from the farmhouse in the valley and poppets made from twigs and hair hang in the trees. There’s a devil that stalks the crossroads of Hex Hollow and it’s got a taste for Viktor’s blood – and Jayce might be the only thing that can save him from damnation.

Summary
Friendships in the valley form fast. The nearest town is over an hour down the mountain road through the park, and even then, it’s a small community mostly fueled by the tourism passing through. That's why everyone who works here lives here too. The valley is its own isolated community.
And if friendships here form fast, then crushes form faster.

Viktor already mourns for his future self, who will have to go through life knowing he’ll never be as comfortable as the night he spent in Jayce Talis’ bed.
And — Gods, that’s really what he’s about to do, isn’t it? Years of yearning for the moment Jayce would invite him home, whether it be a drunken mistake or an act of desperation on Jayce’s part, and this is how it’s finally happening.
