Staring down at their hands, Lan Zhan shakes his head. It's a slow, loose shake, so different from his tight movements of just moments ago. Almost like he's drunk. An uncomfortable thought arises at this apparent level of relief.
"How...how long have you been in pain?" Wei Wuxian asks.
Lan Wangji is so preoccupied on one of his precious, rare nighthunts with Wei Wuxian that he does not feel it when a tiny, quiet curse latches onto him.

“Hey, Lan Zhan...” Wei Wuxian unfolds his leg and gives his foot a playful kick. “I told you to think about it! This means I’d be here for a long time, taking up your time, your space, your peace. And I can’t pay you! I have nothing of worth to give. It isn’t as simple as-”
“I’ll do it,” he says again, more forcefully this time. “You don’t have to give me anything.”
Wei Wuxian looks away, hiding a small smile. Doesn’t he know Lan Wangji would do anything for him, by now? Doesn’t he understand that he holds Lan Wangji’s life in his hands?

Post-CQL Wei Wuxian comes back to the Cloud Recesses to ask for Lan Wangji's help with his new golden core.
Together, they learn how to communicate, how to ask for things, and how to touch each other.Their relationship develops in between quiet dinners in the Jingshi, meditation sessions, core training and a lot of Lan Juniors speculation on whether or not they're actually together yet.

“Your baba,” A-die stroked his hand, his eyes sparkling. A good memory, then, “was someone who always fought for what is right. Who didn’t care about what people thought of him, who didn’t care about what was proper, as long as he saved lives and brought justice.”
Whoever his baba was, Sizhui was proud to be his son. “Oh, so he’s just like A-die!”
His a-die inhaled sharply, and bent down to hug him. “No, A-Yuan.” He squeezed tightly, “I am still working to be more like your baba.”A look at Lan Sizhui growing up as the son of Lan Wangji, his journey through the events of CQL, and the far-reaching effects of Hanguang-Jun to their generation of Lan disciples.
