Summary
It's not Lucy's fault that the vials broke. It's not his fault he caught feelings for her. (Lassoing her had affected him.). That was the last thing he expected or wanted. He couldn't leave her in that Super Duper Mart. He couldn't let her go, no matter how much she already hated him.
(The Super Duper Mart scene goes differently. Cooper learns he loves seeing Lucy blush. Lucy learns something about The Ghoul.)

Summary
Things go differently in Filly. Cooper defeats Maximus and finds Lucy with the head. It should be a boring delivery mission but Cooper can't keep his eyes off Lucy and Lucy can't keep her mouth shut. No matter how much of a bastard Cooper has become in the last 219 years he can't let the little idiot wander the Wasteland alone.

Summary
Cooper and Lucy end up in a Vault. For Cooper, it's like walking into a haunted house and he's the ghost. Cooper hates everything about it except one thing. It makes Lucy happy and Lucy has given him some of his humanity back. The least he can do for her is not be a miserable prick no matter how much he still hates Vault-Tec.
(And there's a bed with fresh sheets and a beautiful woman waiting for him.)
