Dammon has promised to help Karlach with her engine problem, but that help doesn't end when he puts the next repair in. It was just luck that they found each other, but how long until that luck runs out?

Summary
Dammon knew had just a little thread of magic. It lived in his hammer, in the exact spot where it made contact with his hands, where his fingers grasped the wooden handle and drove it to strike at metal. The jump from enchanting low level magic items to modifying an infernal engine of devilish make was a large one, and the risk involved ate away at Dammon as he knelt down next to Karlach.
Karlach origin run, but told from Dammon's perspective. Mostly canon-compliant ;)

“Professor?” Dimitri asked with a look of consternation on his face. Byleth lowered her voice so that the others in the dining hall would not overhear.
"It's why Dedue has never found your favourite food. It’s why you told Flayn her cooking was delicious. You can't taste it," she repeated. Dimitri lowered the spoon back to his bowl carefully.
“Your eyes see everything, don’t they Professor? Even the things I’ve successfully hidden away from everyone else,” he mused at last.
