“If you were an insect, would you sneak into people’s homes or stay outside?” Ryusei turned to Sae. “Hmm... sneaking into homes means more chance of dying, getting crushed or something, but it’s more comfortable.”
“I thought you said you would stay silent.”
“I’m just curious! I’d sneak into people’s homes.” Ryusei's smile edged wider, his eyes widening with manic concentration.
“I wouldn’t expect anything else.” Sae sighed.
Ryusei leaned in closer. “What would you pick? Come on, it’s a harmless question.”
Sae paused. Expression still unreadable. His hands deep in his pockets. That was before he lowered his head. “Stay outside.”
Ryusei’s eyes widened, heart jumping. “Why?” His voice went a little quieter.
“It’s safe. No risk of anyone ruining my life too much. Gives me room to work hard to live comfortably. If I do what I’m meant to, I can live without much worry. It’s just the natural way of things.”

OR, Ryusei finds himself beginning to stalk Sae. Because he loves him. He really does. And after they go to soccer training camp, that love only grows.

"Feels good, right?" Shidou whispered into Sae's ear, breath fanning over his skin in a way he knew would send anyone's heartbeat into a frenzy.
Sae didn't flinch when Shidou hooked a finger into his waistband, brought his lips dangerously close to the soft skin of Sae's neck, waiting for the genius to judo-flip him to the ground like he half expected him to. He'd let him, obviously, because it was Sae.
"Get off me," said Sae.
But there was no real threat behind it; he said it so calmly that Shidou didn't buy it for a second. He tugged Sae's hip toward him by his waistband, a little harder than he'd intended to. But fuck, it was getting so hard not to just grab this genius and pin him to that big fucking bed.
"You sure?" He whispered, skimming his lips over Sae's skin, tempting him with it. Teasing him with it.
Shidou felt something shift in the air between them. No, wait, he felt something shift in Sae.
And that was before he pressed his lips right into Sae's neck.

“What?”
Since when is that an option? Shouldn't he be so excited that Sae even called him first that he's already at his door? Is he that damn tired? He can just come over, and they can just take a nap together or something.
“Ooh, you sound sad, pretty boy. You miss me that much already-”
Sae catches the way Shidou cuts his sentence off a bit fast. He definitely catches the flurry of coughs being muffled on the other line. ‘Ah, so that's what it was,’ crosses Sae's mind. Ryuusei is sick and has probably been asleep the whole time, trying to get better.

Shidou is sick and Sae is gay.
