  2. Summary

What does it truly take to earn a Vision? The requirements are unknown and contradicting. Some do nothing; don’t even want one nor care, yet they receive the same reward as those with great accomplishments. But there are those who have struggled and continued to pursue through life, earned achievements and have ambitions even greater than some known Allogenes... and received nothing.

Then there are those who have been blessed, have received Visions, but eventually had the gift given to them stripped off their possession. Whether taken by a god or mortal, the loss of a Vision affects all—though in what way? To have it forcefully or willingly surrendered decides what happens.

    Summary

' Wakefulness hit Wriothesley with a jolt of alarm. He couldn’t breathe. Something heavy and hairy covered his face. There was no time to contemplate the strangeness of the situation. This wouldn’t be the first assassination attempt on the Duke of Meropide, but it would be the first to catch him unaware in his own quarters.

Wriothesley brought his knee up to dislodge his attacker, but hit only air. The weapon of choice to smother him in his sleep hissed and sharp pricks of pain hit several points on his face. Half-awake with only self-preservation instincts guiding his actions, Wriothesley reached up to grab a handful of… fur. He yanked a massive cat off his face as he heaved in a lungful of fresh air. In the dim light of his room, he locked eyes with the cat for a split second before it yowled and swiped its claws at his hand. '

When the House of the Hearth infiltrated the Fortress of Meropide, they brought along one extra member of the family. It wasn't intentional, of course, but you try telling a magician's cat what it can and cannot do.

    Summary

“You need to be more careful,” it burst out of him, cutting her off. “It—it took me what? A month? To prove that you could read my mind and all because you constantly slip up by reacting to things nobody said aloud! That’s incredibly dangerous! What if someone—”

“Nobody has until now,” she said, entirely too unbothered by the whole thing. “Not even my dad and he’s a— he’s very smart.”

And Damian was a teenager with a notebook. That did not bode well for Mr. Forger’s mental capabilities.

“Shut up,” Anya said with her nose turned up. “It’s not his fault you’re a huge nerd.”

Damian suspects that Anya Forger is capable of reading minds, and he sets out to prove it. Even if it makes him feel silly for even entertaining such an idea.
