Summary
Billy smirks at his reflection as he adjusts the hat over his curls and fiddles with the little red neckerchief attached to the collar his shirt. He’s honestly not entirely sure if the outfit will traumatise Steve or turn him on, but Billy knows how well his ass fills out the little blue shorts.
He’s totally banking on the latter.
It wasn’t even hard to get a hold of. Billy had sauntered into Scoops Ahoy, made eyes at the girl behind the counter while sucking on a sample spoon and the uniform was good as his. The same successful method he’d used to lock Steve down, gaining himself a hot new boyfriend and as much free ice cream that he could stomach the summer of ’85.

“Are you excited?” Heather saves him, leaning over to snag the tickets out of Billy’s hands. “Don’t know if you noticed big guy, but we only have a couple of days to get to San Diego. We head out in the morning, we wanted to leave it until the last minute, so you didn’t have to wait.”
Billy takes a deep breath; annoyed that it still comes out shaky on the exhale. “You wanted to get the jump on me more like.”
“Well, there’s also that,” Robin says with a grin. “No chance of backing out now Hargrove. We’ve got a road trip planned!”

Summary
Steve frowns down at his chicken scratch scrawl and wonders when exactly it was that he lost his fucking mind. It’s the fifth time this month that he’s done this, lurking around after dark like a creep all to slip a note into Billy’s mailbox.
A love note.
Wait. He doesn’t love Billy. Or maybe he does? Fuck. All Steve knows is that Billy Hargrove somehow survived the unsurvivable last summer and his newfound presence in Steve’s life has scrambled his brain.

“You know, this thing you have with that guy is quickly beginning to cross the line from cute to creepy.” Robin says, sideling up to him with Heather, a girl she met earlier hanging off her arm.
“I’m not a creep Rob, I just –”
“Dream of all the ways you want blondie to dick you down,” Robin wrinkles her nose in disgust. “Trust me. I’ve heard it all before.”

It was Steve’s birthday in two weeks and to his surprise, thirty was actually looking pretty fucking good. Seventeen year old Steve would have never thought it, but he and Billy had left Hawkins almost eight years ago now after the Upside Down reared it’s nasty head for the last time and life had been smooth sailing ever since.

‘Why did you come here?’
Steve feels his neck go prickly hot at that. He came because it’s been a week since anyone’s seen Billy. He came because Max was worried, and he came because he gets a stupid little flutter in his core whenever anyone says his name.
He shrugs. ‘Max mentioned it’d been a while since she heard from you.’
Billy’s eyebrows knit a little. ‘Phone’s been out. Weather or whatever.’
‘Makes sense,’ Steve says. ‘Also I wasn’t sure… I figured maybe you could use some uh. Food.’
Billy’s mouth twitches at the corners, not quite a smile. It brings that goddamn flutter back with a vengeance. Makes his cheeks feel warm.

Summary
As if being the designated babysitter wasn't enough, Steve finds himself accidentally becoming the group's designated birthday baker. Not that he minds - he likes to feel needed, plus it's a good distraction from the nightmares that have plagued him since that fateful night at the mall.
He does mind, however, the fact that Billy Hargrove seems to be weaving his way into the group. He's apparently had a personality transplant since the Mind Flayer nearly tore him apart, or so the story goes, but Steve isn't duped. It's fine, though, he can carry on ignoring the guy and ignoring the way his face still tingles with the ghost of Billy's fists.
But then, get this.
Steve has to bake Billy a birthday cake, too.
