If it were any other piece of mail, it would’ve been opened, read, discarded, added to his next cases, or kept for evidence by now. It sat unopened for days now, Inference keeping it tucked away in the upper drawer of his desk so it was easy to pull back out when he felt he might have the confidence to finally open it.
Tonight, he thought he would finally be able to do it; he was not the type to be so hesitant. Careful, sure, but not overly cautious. He had many scars to prove that.
He could just rip it open, read it, and put it right back into his desk - but such pretty craftsmanship deserved to be respected as such. He wasn’t a brute. Most of the time.
With a defeated sigh, he slipped it back into his desk, shutting off his oil lamp and deciding to turn to his pipe instead for the rest of the night.
Just a couple more days, he told himself as nicotine filled his lungs.

However, one of these habits halted something Norton had been wanting to do for some time.
Alice can't exactly cohabitate outside of her house.
He's slept over plenty of times, observed her night time routine for each visit, memorizing every step in the way she washed her face, and how long she brushed her teeth and showered. He knew she couldn't help any of it, and he accepted it as such. He loved her, wanted her. So he was willing to wait a little extra long until they went to bed together.
Though from their nights together- it was evident that they had very good bed chemistry.

Summary
The Nameless were all prepared to strike in an instant, or at least, put up a defence if anyone decided to suddenly jump on them, weapon in hands. They kept up the innocent facade while their stance widened and their powers drummed right beneath their skin.
However, they had forgotten something.
Something extremely important and that maybe, the enemy had smartly noticed at this moment, or cunningly prepared beforehand.
Regardless, the outcome was still the same...
