The first thing Shouyou sees as he walks outside with the team (with his team) is the familiar sight of the bus, bringing a smile to his face as he glances at Tooru, his boyfriend- the second thing he sees makes his smile drop and the ground beneath him turn to ashes.
Shouyou stops.

Summary
When Shouyou was ten years old, he saw his mother fall apart.
Life had never been easy at home before his father had disappeared at age eight. But after he left, things were hard- well, harder.
It took four years for his mother to snap under the pressure- four years for her to grow more and more distant as the years passed, working as many jobs as she could possibly juggle with as little sleep as she could manage.
(It only took four years for Shouyou to ruin everything.)

There isn't really anything wrong with Shouyou's life- sure, he doesn't have friends or a romantic partner or any talent at the one thing he's passionate about- or a mother that loves him.
But he's going to Aoba Johsai for a fresh start, and even if he can't make any real, meaningful connections (he does), that's enough for him.
