"Mr. Hollander, with all due respect, there is a very clear difference here. No one is stopping you and Mr. Rozanov from doing whatever you want in your free time, but this is a workplace. Many players and fans feel uncomfortable watching that kind of behaviour-"

"Then they can close their eyes," Shane interrupted in a very uncharacteristic manner.

OR: Shane has been the NHL golden boy for 11 seasons, but some people are simply begging for a verbal slapdown. The internet reacts.

    Summary

"The sighs and groans stop suddenly and Shane’s stomach sinks. Fuck. Ilya is going to know that Shane is jerking off to him on the other side of the wall and he's going to hate him. This isn't how Shane imagined seducing him at all. He just couldn't fucking help himself.

Okay it's fine. It's explainable. He could just be walking through the room to get dressed and ready to go. Ilya doesn't have to know that Shane has the entire side of his body pressed into the wall on the other side of his bed. Sure, maybe the creak is too close to Ilya's side, but will Ilya really be able to tell how close? In apartment living noise just travels everywhere.

Just then, he hears the moans resume. And if he's not mistaken, they're a touch louder. Fuck, he's not imagining that, is he? Ilya is fucking louder. Not obviously so, but noticeable when you've got your ear desperately pressed to the wall like Shane does."

Or, Shane is down bad and engages in some manipulation and light stalking to get his man, and Ilya is very much okay with this. College AU but tbh there's not a ton of plot here lol.

Or, this author has seen some unhinged obsessive Ilya characterizations and wants more with Shane too.

    Summary

Ilya stays quiet as he works through the words. He takes a deep breath, “My birthday is in June, at end of season. My mama would make the day special… but after she… afterwards... my father was not as nice. Sometimes if the season did not go well, I don’t need to celebrate.”

“You didn’t need to? Or you didn’t get to?”

Shane gets his hand squeezed again in lieu of an answer.

“So, this week, you said you didn’t have a good season, that’s why you don’t want to do anything?”

Ilya pauses, “I never said do nothing, I just do not think I need it this year,”
    -------
After getting kicked out of the playoffs and losing his chance at the Cup, Ilya struggles with feeling like he deserves a birthday this year. Shane is ready to remind him he deserves love, happiness, and support.

AKA: A sweet birthday fic with our favorite married hockey players.

Inspired by the song Matilda (Harry Styles) because I'm convinced Ilya listened to it and cried.
