Maestro scrubs his hands under the running water, letting the suds wash off whatever is on them that makes that voice lecture him for hours on end. Even now he had to make sure that his washing was up to ‘his’ standards. Sometimes Maestro wonders if ‘he’ just likes to torment him sometimes.
[I’m not trying to torment you, is it really that troublesome of me to ask you to take care of this body?]
Maestro turns off the tap and picks up a towel to dry his hands, “Our hands have been through much worse.”
[Exactly, which is why you should take extra care of them, not be more careless.]

Summary
Sometimes Czerny wonders what the view must look like from where the noble audiences sit during his performances.
He knows they look at him like an exotic animal, but what does that entail exactly? What does that mix of disgust and admiration make you feel? Do they think he chose to become their little jester or do they understand it was something inevitable?
He doesn’t get much of a chance to go through such an experience. Save for watching auditions for his concerts, very rarely does he get to be the one in the audience seat. He understood he would never truly know what it’s like to be on the other side of the stage.
But maybe this was a good enough replacement.
