Summary
There was no longer any use in lying to herself. Leshwi *wanted* Kaladin. The greatest of his age, blessed by the storm itself—killing him would be a feat desired by many. Indeed, several of those under her command requested the honor of dueling him each engagement. Some, she had granted. Their corpses littered dozens of battlefields. Some she had denied, claiming him for herself. Once, he had killed her, the beauty of his skill distracting her a moment too long. He held her as she died, her soul slipping through the crack he opened in her gemheart.
She did not know what rhythm he attuned in his heart, what emotion pulled tears to his eyes. But the last moment she lived in that body she spent humming to Craving, and his hand on her chest trembled in time.
That had been yesterday.
Today, revived by the everstorm, Leshwi challenged him anew. Her soldiers did not question her desire for revenge, but in truth she sought a different passion, a euphoric satisfaction.
