It wasn't Eggman's best idea to send Metal out when the clouds had already become so dark. He was supposed to defeat Sonic, yet here he was, having to hide from the rain.
Thankfully, Sonic has plans that don't involve fighting.

Summary
The Monster was at his wit's end. He hadn't seen a decent meal in months, and the last two that looked edible had not only escaped, but thoroughly humiliated him.
So, he figured, why not kill two birds with one stone and unleash an ancient evil upon the world that would not only give him a nigh-endless supply of free food, but also wipe those stupid grins off their faces for good?
The problem, though, was that the Corruption-- the unknowable, bloodthirsty force whose very name was feared throughout the multiverse... was rather high-maintenance.
