Summary
Draco returns for his eighth year at Hogwarts in an attempt to salvage whatever he can of his future. His plan: sit as many N.E.W.T.s as possible, distance himself from the Malfoy name, and keep out of trouble. Of course, with his father on trial and at risk of unthinkable punishment, not to mention the anxiety-fueled "episodes" that have been plaguing him since summer, the school year doesn't go so smoothly. Especially when Harry Potter keeps seeking him out.

Draco had been in prison for two years and on probation for six months. Well-meaning, but infuriating, Black women and one Impossible Boy never leave him alone. The Ministry of Magic’s Bureaucratic Vermin made it abundantly clear he wasn’t allowed to leave this travesty of a landmass. Fine. Magical Society could fuck right off. He would stick to the bits of England that were overwhelmingly mundane.
Which had been suiting him well enough, until one night, after his shift he definitely, positively, did not see Harry Fucking Potter in the alley behind his work. Saint Potter, in his infinite annoyance, was still gossiped about even here and everyone knew the git was partying his way across Europe.
Draco couldn’t have seen him.
Unfortunately, there was nothing wrong with Draco’s hearing: "It's Hermione. It's not good. I need your help."
Draco was trying his best, but the world really was out to fuck him.

16 years have passed since the Battle of Hogwarts and the Wizarding world has gained some semblance of peace.
Draco Malfoy is no longer the hot-headed boy he was during the war, but has matured and faced his dark past. However, Draco's growth is tested when occult-like murders rock the DMLE and he is asked to return to England to assist in solving them.
Hermione Granger is still haunted by the ghosts of her past. She works for the DMLE as a rune and ward specialist, but she harbors resentment towards the Ministry of Magic for its lack of progress following Voldemort's defeat.
What happens when Draco and Hermione are assigned as partners to solve the murders? Will they be able to place their differences aside and catch the culprit before another Dark Lord emerges?

Summary

Harry isn’t sure but he certainly doesn’t want life to be easy for the ones who wronged him. Revenge has never tasted sweeter than when they don’t know it’s coming.
