“Wait! Aren’t you going to tell me your name? I’m Kaveh.”
Shoulders stiffening at the sound of his name, the mercenary halfway turned his head, as though glancing at Kaveh out of the corner of his eye.
“Alhaitham.”
Kaveh can’t quite figure out the Eremite he hired to guide him through the desert. Alhaitham’s refusal to answer any questions, and his apparent talent for speaking a dead language, makes him all the more interesting…and infuriating. Kaveh’s curiosity about what secrets Alhaitham is hiding might just be the end of him.
After all, curiosity is often the most dangerous thing in this land.

He spun the bottle, it felt like it was forever spinning, the anticipation Kaveh felt. Who would be so unlucky to get Alhaitham?
The bottle stopped spinning, finally.
“Oh.” Kaveh echoed himself from earlier. Of course he was the unlucky one Alhaitham HAD to land on. Kaveh looked at Alhaitham, and as usual, he glared back. ‘This sucks.’ Kaveh thought to himself. Everything sucked today. For Kaveh at least.

“Did she take it too hard?” Kaveh asks, allowing his shoulders to relax as he continues cleaning the shelves.
There’s a moment of silence that Kaveh doesn’t take to heart. It usually takes Alhaitham a second or two to recall minute details of social interactions.
Then, finally, “...Did she take what too hard?”
“Uh…” Kaveh starts, “When you declined her offer?”
“Who said I declined her offer?”
