What would happen if Mel took a little longer to get up during the council room fight in 2x08?
Viktor has won. Jayce is subdued and struggling in his hands. But Viktor isn't ready to show Jayce the Glorious Evolution - it's too soon for that. Jayce is strong-willed, though, and will resist this new version of Viktor till death.
To avert this, Viktor decides to keep his old partner's mind busy until the time is right. Viktor gives Jayce what he truly desires: a world where things went a little differently between the two of them. A world in which there is significantly more of Jayce for Viktor to appreciate. A world in which Viktor is in full support of his partner's desire for more.
