"Ben never actually got on the merry-go-round though. Because as soon as his hand touched the metal, something smelled good in a way he’d never encountered before. Soft but strange, and enough to entirely divert his short attention span.
Rey smelled it too, her head peaking out from the little under cubby area of the pirate ship. She didn’t know what it was, but it got a bit stronger as a dark haired boy wandered close, his brown eyes alight with curiosity. He had a gap toothed smile, khaki shorts and a pale blue shirt with a funny cartoon face, complete with a juice stain. She liked him immediately, an instinct that doubled when he thrust a half eaten packet of vending machine cookies towards her. "

“First heat together?” A gentle hand, being placed on Ben's bicep, broke him from his stewing, and he looked over with a silent nod. It was an older man, who smelled like alpha, with a kind smile in his eyes.
“Do you know what she likes?” A sweet faced omega appeared from another direction, both unknown to Ben before now and yet appearing as angels.
“Dinosaurs. And ducks.” It wasn’t a lot to go on and Ben could feel his face start to burn. "“Yeeesssss, I know,” Daisy might be a little older but she wasn’t any further impressed with Mom insistence on manners.
“Ahh, she’s got it. Go get ‘em, little duck.” Clyde’s broad hand gently nudged his duckie daughter forward. While Ophelia sat on the passenger seat of the golf cart, which Clyde moved forward every few houses, he stood at the end of every driveway to make sure their duckling made it to the front door and back safely. Ophelia had also been spared wearing an inflatable duck suit but had a bright yellow sweatshirt with ‘wings’ attached to the arms - mostly because Mama duck successfully pointed out that it would be hard to hold Daisy’s little brother in that thing."

"The point was Ben had two options - admit to his mother that he couldn’t be bothered with laundry or buy enough basic clothing to last until they returned. However, now that he was enacting the latter plan, Ben had run into the problem of how the hell was he supposed to know his measurements? Who actually knows this shit? Why would you know this shit? Does anyone actually go around, measuring their waist and arms? He felt fairly confident in terms of the socks and undies, but these shirts were driving him nuts. Why did he wear these under his work shirts again? Right. Reduced laundry and kept his nips from showing.
“Do you need help or…” Rey’s voice trailed off because the man in question looked like he hated the package of mass produced cotton undershirts more than anyone had a right to."

"She was there to talk about Mr. Logan and how the Logan family could help him, not her own failed romances! The bedroom was as tidy and sparse as the rest of the trailer, with laundry thrown in the hamper, a bed frame that looked like Clyde had probably been sleeping on it most of his life (there were crayon marks on one of the legs). There was a book by the bed, escapist fantasy, with a receipt used as a bookmark and a small plant in the windowsill.
There was a lot you could tell about a person from their bedroom, and Ophelia liked this one. When she flipped back the covers, there was a soft, barely there scent that was warm and comforting. It made the empty bed feel lonely but at least its occupant would be returning soon. And she would do her very best to make sure that Clyde Logan never slept in a jailhouse cot again!"
