When she was about ten, Audrey remembered putting away her only photo album. She didn’t exactly remember what pictures earned the banishment, except that they made her sad to look at.
She remembered, when she was eighteen and moved into her own place, she was too distracted to bother throwing the album away, so she packed it up with leftover foam and tape and stuck it in another attic. Now that she had more mental images of her father than ever before, most of them grotesquely unpleasant, she was stirred to pull down the ladder.
