An ace.
The main pitcher, the one expected to lead the team when everyone is out on the field, to stand atop of the mound of dirt and encourage the other players with their presence and pitches to create momentum moving forward.
It was a sign that showed to not only your teammates, but also your coaches, that you are truly worthy of standing on top of that mound.
As a relief pitcher, it was their job to ensure the ace had a reliable person to fall back on in case something happened, whether it be intentional or not, and make sure the ace knew there was someone there that had their back.
Sawamura Eijun knew the perks and benefits of being the ace, of the position he so desperately sought after.
However, never once did he consider the difference between being a relief and being the ace would be so vast.
There was only so much one could take of heartache, loss, and being generally set aside before they begin to wonder why they still go on doing what they do.
Eijun is now in that position, and he has no idea how to move on from it.
Will there be something to repair these faded, broken memories?
