Summary
"There has to be something you want to come back for. Something you can’t die without doing.”
Robby’s gaze roamed across Dennis's face, tracing the planes and sharp angles of his features like he was trying to commit them to memory. He already had a long time ago. The horrible, aching knot in his chest dedicated to Dennis was a piece of Robby that he tried, time and time again, to rip out. Always to no avail.
If he had anything to come back for, it’d be this one thing.
"Marry me," Robby said.
Robby, about to head out for his sabbatical and never return, thinks to hell with it—nothing matters except for the very real, very inappropriate feelings he's been harboring for his first-year resident. So he proposes. And before he can take it back, Whitaker says yes.

Summary
He’s sat down on the couch now, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, shoulders all tense again, and Blanc is hit with the urge to reach forward and sink his hand into his neck like he did yesterday. But then again, pent up as Jud is, what was acceptable to him last night might not be such a good idea now. If Blanc being in his vicinity right now seems like a welcome presence, he’s pretty sure Jud would explode if he were to poke at him the wrong way.
“Are you sure,” Blanc says, “that you’re alright with me goin'?”
Jud looks at him then, skittish, from the corner of his eye. His body is still turned away from Blanc’s, jittery, his knee bouncing. “I’ll be okay,” Jud says. “Promise I’ll behave.”
“Sure,” Blanc says. “Because you’re so good at behavin'.”
(Or: Blanc keeps finding himself back in Chimney Rock, tries to deal with his own changing life, and attempts to ignore the enormity of his desire.)

Summary
None of the men who hired [Jud] said a thing about the cuts and bruises. If anything, it was beneficial in this line of work. They saw it as an okay to get as rough as they liked, because obviously Jud must like it rough.
And rough cost extra.
Never mind that Jud was taking extra long showers when he would arrive at the gym in the morning. His coach never berated him for wasting water, just as he never mentioned how Jud seemed to be even sorer than usual.
[...]
Well, actually, it wasn't any of his business anyway.
[...]
Maybe it circled back around to being his business when Jud had started to become unsteady on his feet, but Jud had it under control. He just had to find the right dosage to manage the pain. Once he figured that out, he would be unstoppable.
First ranked boxer would be his.
